Let’s Build a Better Tailboard

Let's build a better tailboard. A post which will be updated with your suggestions and ideas over time.
I need your help. I want to build a better tailboard. I’ve been using the same tailboard form for over 10 years now. Damn, that’s a long time. There are a couple things I’ve always wanted to change, so I’m going to do it. I’ve posted the front and back of a tailboard I’ve filled out from an actual job site below. Take a look, let me know what you think. What else could I include in my tailboard to make my site safer? What else could I include (or exclude) to make my tailboard easier to use? I’ll use any feedback to make a better tailboard for my crew. I’ll also post a blank version of our improved tailboard form anyone can download and use from our website, for free. I’ll get this started with a couple of my own suggestions:
  • FRONT, under “ANRP” – I would like a “Limits of Approach Table” entered, permanently so it could be filled out using the limits of approach for “Certified Utility Arborists”, “Tested Insulated Tools”, and “Non-Certified Workers” for the voltage of the power lines that we’re working around that day.
  • BACK, under “Job Procedures” – I would like to have “First Aid Attendant: ______”; “First Aid Kit and Fire Extinguisher Location: _______” and “HOSPITAL: _______” typed so it doesn’t have to be written out every time.
